Encouragement: Craving more

Here is your daily encouragement words and thoughts. Today I bring you encouragement from Ecclesiastes 6:7-9

7 All of man’s labor is for nothing more than to fill his stomach
yet his appetite is never satisfied!
8 So what advantage does a wise man have over a fool?
And what advantage does a pauper gain by knowing how to survive?
9 It is better to be content with what the eyes can see
than for one’s heart always to crave more.
This continual longing is futile – like chasing the wind.

I struggled at first today to call today's entry an encouragement. But it was what came to my desktop this morning.

I feel the writers proclamation. I tend to do a lot of wind chasing. It always seems like we chase after the things we want not just what we need. And the hunger for more seems to be there even stronger after we obtain our goal.

Have you ever went to your fridge after supper feeling hungry not knowing what you want. So you look through the whole fridge and the cupboards. Still not knowing you finally decide that you will eat some fruit maybe that will satisfy. Still hungry, so you look some more then you eat that piece of pie, that was very good but you are still not satisfied, so you open the freezer and get that bowl of ice cream. Now at that point you are no longer hungry you may have a belly ache but you still do not "feel satisfied" I am sure everyone can relate to this.

Some times in our lives we have this hunger for more things and when we get more things the hunger is still there. Enough is never enough. Perhaps like the trip to the fridge we are not really identifying what the hunger or craving is.

Matt 6:33 "But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." or from the KJV "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. "

When we strive and struggle to satisfy our craving with things on our own we may have the sensation okay but is that all there must be more. Maybe like our trip to the fridge, we are not identfying our need. Perhaps the craving we feel is actually a craving for the Lord.

We need seek Him first to satisfy the hunger within us. Then with our priorities in the right place, we then end up with things added unto us. We still may have to work hard for the things but we are not chasing after the things in hunger, we are not chasing the wind.

Our world likes to chase after things and money. Try not to do it on your own. Let God satisfy the hunger, then we can identify our needs verses our wants. There is nothing wrong with having things but just like our message from the other day "Do not wear yourself out" chasing the wind.

Amen
