Encouragement: Splendor and strength!

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 96

96:1 Sing to the Lord a new song!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Sing to the Lord! Praise his name!
Announce every day how he delivers!
3 Tell the nations about his splendor!
Tell all the nations about his amazing deeds!
4 For the Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise;
he is more awesome than all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are worthless,
but the Lord made the sky.
6 Majestic splendor emanates from him;
his sanctuary is firmly established and beautiful.
7 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the nations,
ascribe to the Lord splendor and strength!
8 Ascribe to the Lord the splendor he deserves!
Bring an offering and enter his courts!
9 Worship the Lord in holy attire!
Tremble before him, all the earth!
10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!
The world is established, it cannot be moved.
He judges the nations fairly.”
11 Let the sky rejoice, and the earth be happy!
Let the sea and everything in it shout!
12 Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!
Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy
13 before the Lord, for he comes!
For he comes to judge the earth!
He judges the world fairly,
and the nations in accordance with his justice.

"Announce every day how he delivers!" What a nice instruction for us to proclaim. We need to take the time every day to tell the story.

After I wrote down this line it occured how often we treat God like a take out pizza shop. We call in prayer with a quick order and we trust that He delivers whatever we pray for.

We tend to take God for granted or want to but He does not let us, but rather He has us. 'Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!"'

Amen

Encouragement: Seek his presence continually!

Today I bring you encouragement from 1 Chronicles 16:8-34

8 Give thanks to the Lord!
Call on his name!
Make known his accomplishments among the nations!
9 Sing to him! Make music to him!
Tell about all his miraculous deeds!
10 Boast about his holy name!
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
11 Seek the Lord and the strength he gives!
Seek his presence continually!
12 Recall the miraculous deeds he performed,his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed,
13 O children of Israel,
God’s servant,you descendants of Jacob,
God’s chosen ones!
14 He is the Lord our God;he carries out judgment throughout the earth.
15 Remember continually his covenantal decree,the promise he made to a thousand generations
16 the promise he made to Abraham,the promise he made by oath to Isaac!
17 He gave it to Jacob as a decree,to Israel as a lasting promise,
18 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaanas the portion of your inheritance.”
19 When they were few in number,just a very few, and foreign residents within it,
20 they wandered from nation to nation,and from one kingdom to another.
21 He let no one oppress them,he disciplined kings for their sake,
22 saying, “Don’t touch my anointed ones!
Don’t harm my prophets!”
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth!Announce every day how he delivers!
24 Tell the nations about his splendor,tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds!
25 For the Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise,he is more awesome than all gods.
26 For all the gods of the nations are worthless,but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Majestic splendor emanates from him,he is the source of strength and joy.
28 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the nations, ascribe to the Lord splendor and strength!
29 Ascribe to the Lord the splendor he deserves!Bring an offering and enter his presence!Worship the Lord in holy attire!
30 Tremble before him, all the earth!
The world is established, it cannot be moved.
31 Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy!
Let the nations say, ‘The Lord reigns!’
32 Let the sea and everything in it shout!
Let the fields and everything in them celebrate!
33 Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth!
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good and his loyal love endures.

God is in our lives always. I have been struggling with this piece of scripture for weeks now. My electronic bible has been opening to

"Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the nations, ascribe to the Lord splendor and strength! "

I did not knowingly set it to open here. So I tonight said to God 'Okay Lord I am going to post this to the blog'

After I pasted the text here suddenly I start to see the wonder of these words of David and the faith filled message.

So I will let these words speak to you as they are speaking to me.

"Give thanks to the Lord!
Call on His name!
Make known His accomplishments among the nations!

Sing to Him!
Make music to Him!
Tell about all His miraculous deeds!

Boast about His holy name!
Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

Seek the Lord and the strength He gives!
Seek His presence continually!"

I need to see and live out "Seek the Lord and the strength He gives! Seek His presence continually!"

These are words to live by as in them, we find life.

Amen.........

Encouragement: Wipe away every tear

Today I bring you encouragement from Revelation 7:9-17

9 After these things I looked, and here was an enormous crowd that no one could count,
made up of persons from every nation, tribe, people, and language,
standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes,
and with palm branches in their hands.
10 They were shouting out in a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God,
to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
11 And all the angels stood there in a circle around the throne
and around the elders and the four living creatures,
and they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground before the throne and worshiped God,
12 saying,
“Amen! Praise and glory,
and wisdom and thanksgiving,
and honor and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”
13 Then one of the elders asked me,
“These dressed in long white robes – who are they and where have they come from?”
14 So I said to him, “My lord, you know the answer.” Then he said to me,
“These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation.
They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb!
15 For this reason they are before the throne of God,
and they serve him day and night in his temple, and the one seated on the throne will shelter them.
16 They will never go hungry or be thirsty again, and the sun will not beat down on them, nor any burning heat,
17 because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

It has been a while since I made a regular entry here. I was going to add my comments to this text but I think the Word says it all.

"Salvation belongs to our God,"

"They will never go hungry or be thirsty again,
and the sun will not beat down on them
, nor any burning heat,
because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them
and lead them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

Oh praise Him.

Encouragement: Be Happy

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 5:11-12

But may all who take shelter in you be happy!
May they continually shout for joy!
Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice!
12 Certainly you reward the godly, Lord.
Like a shield you protect them in your good favor.

Biblical Studies Press. (2006; 2006). The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (Ps 5:11-12). Biblical Studies Press.

I have posted many blog entries providing encouragement through seeing scripture that displays that you can endure through hardship. A hardship just like you are going through right now. A very good friend told me a while back that it was important to focus on being happy. That I needed to be happy.

In reflecting on this, I have noted over the last couple of weeks many people finding a new happiness in there existing situation. So over the next little while I am going to focus on what the bible has to say about happy. I hope that God can shine through my blog and bring or increase happiness to all who read here.

Psalm 5 suggests that if we take shelter in Him, that we can be happy and shout for Joy. I think that this does happen.

How, you say?

Well, when we take shelter in the Lord, we turn over the stresses of life to Him. This act allows Him make order of our lives. The first step in this process takes the stress taken off our shoulders. When we are full of stress and worry we are consumed by these efforts of fear, worry and self. With the stress off our shoulders, it allows us to become more focused. We can then use the lessons we have learned from His word and move forward with the help of His guidance. We do what we must do to change our situation. Our minds have the time and the energy to find a solution. So often God places people and tools around us that are the keys to changing our situations. We need to accept them and use them for His glory.

We need to remember that each time fear and stress move upon us we need to take shelter in the Lord. This may sound simple and easy but it is not. It requires trust. Trust in a God that gave His son that we may be acceptable in His presents.

Like the song says below "I could get used to this bein Happy".

May we all take shelter in Him

Amen

Encouragement: Distress and hardship confront me

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 119:141-164

141 I am insignificant and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your justice endures,
and your law is reliable.
143 Distress and hardship confront me,
yet I find delight in your commands.
144 Your rules remain just.
Give me insight so that I can live.
145 I cried out with all my heart, “Answer me, O Lord!
I will observe your statutes.”
146 I cried out to you, “Deliver me,
so that I can keep your rules.”
147 I am up before dawn crying for help.
I find hope in your word.
148 My eyes anticipate the nighttime hours,
so that I can meditate on your word.
149 Listen to me because of your loyal love!
O Lord, revive me, as you typically do!
150 Those who are eager to do wrong draw near;
they are far from your law.
151 You are near, O Lord,
and all your commands are reliable.
152 I learned long ago that
you ordained your rules to last.
153 See my pain and rescue me!
For I do not forget your law.
154 Fight for me and defend me!
Revive me with your word!
155 The wicked have no chance for deliverance,
for they do not seek your statutes.
156 Your compassion is great, O Lord.
Revive me, as you typically do!
157 The enemies who chase me are numerous.
Yet I do not turn aside from your rules.
158 I take note of the treacherous and despise them,
because they do not keep your instructions.
159 See how I love your precepts!
O Lord, revive me with your loyal love!
160 Your instructions are totally reliable;
all your just regulations endure.
161 Rulers pursue me for no reason,
yet I am more afraid of disobeying your instructions.
162 I rejoice in your instructions,
like one who finds much plunder.
163 I hate and despise deceit;
I love your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise you
because of your just regulations.

Encouragement: He does whatever He pleases!

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 115:1-9

115:1 Not to us, O Lord, not to us!
But to your name bring honor,
for the sake of your loyal love and faithfulness.
2 Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
3 Our God is in heaven!
He does whatever he pleases!
4 Their idols are made of silver and gold –
they are man-made.
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see,
6 ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell,
7 hands, but cannot touch,
feet, but cannot walk.
They cannot even clear their throats.
8 Those who make them will end up like them,
as will everyone who trusts in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the Lord!
He is their deliverer and protector.

Wow what a wake up call! "He does whatever He pleases!"

So much of the Christian world today runs on the premise that it is all about us. We just need to have faith, we just need to pray right, we just need to do this and do not do that and our God will be at our service.

But this little one liner tells all. God does what ever He pleases. That means it is all about Him. Louie Giglio (see link on right) in some of his messages talks about getting the mind set right. That we need focus on being a part of God's story and not be trying to get God to be a servant in our story.

It is easy to have the feeling like you are in God's story when all is going right. It is in those times when the apple cart has been upset and you are down on your knees pleading with God "Where are You!" Those are the times when we need to seek His overflowing grace and ask Him where do you want me in your story or how does my situation lead to Your glory.

It is at these times when all seem wrong and out of place that people around you will say like the Psalm:

"So where is your God?"

To that question we need to be able to answer.

"Our God is in heaven! He does whatever He pleases!"

We need to have the mind set.

"Not to us, O Lord, not to us!
But to Your name bring honor,
for the sake of Your loyal love and faithfulness."

So when the world is coming down around you, stop and step back and search for how God is using you in His story to His glory. Let yourself and your situation be soaked in the waves of everlasting grace that He so freely gives as we play a part in His story.

If we are part of His story we are a part of the everlasting story.

Amen

Encouragemnt: Seeing our fellow Christian

Today I bring you encouragement from 1 John 3:16-20

16 We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians.
17 But whoever has the world’s possessions and sees his fellow Christian in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can the love of God reside in such a person?
18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth.
19 And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence,
20 that if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

Biblical Studies Press. (2006; 2006). The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (1 Jn 3:16-20). Biblical Studies Press.

I have been looking for this passage of scripture for some time. In our world of me first,and the worldly suggestion that "I look after myself so should they" leads us to focus inward.

This scripture sets us on our heels and challenges us to check our compassion so that the Love of God may be found to reside in us. This scripture tell us to reach out and look after our fellow Christians needs.

Amen

Encouragement: Written to get God’s attention.

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 38:1-22

38:1 A psalm of David, written to get God’s attention.
O Lord, do not continue to rebuke me in your anger!
Do not continue to punish me in your raging fury!
2 For your arrows pierce me,
and your hand presses me down.
3 My whole body is sick because of your judgment;
I am deprived of health because of my sin.
4 For my sins overwhelm me;
like a heavy load, they are too much for me to bear.
5 My wounds are infected and starting to smell,
because of my foolish sins.
6 I am dazed and completely humiliated;
all day long I walk around mourning.
7 For I am overcome with shame
and my whole body is sick.
8 I am numb with pain and severely battered;
I groan loudly because of the anxiety I feel.
9 O Lord, you understand my heart’s desire;
my groaning is not hidden from you.
10 My heart beats quickly;
my strength leaves me;
I can hardly see.
11 Because of my condition, even my friends and acquaintances keep their distance;
my neighbors stand far away.
12 Those who seek my life try to entrap me;
those who want to harm me speak destructive words;
all day long they say deceitful things.
13 But I am like a deaf man – I hear nothing;
I am like a mute who cannot speak.
14 I am like a man who cannot hear
and is incapable of arguing his defense.
15 Yet I wait for you, O Lord!
You will respond, O Lord, my God!
16 I have prayed for deliverance, because otherwise they will gloat over me;
when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me.
17 For I am about to stumble,
and I am in constant pain.
18 Yes, I confess my wrongdoing,
and I am concerned about my sins.
19 But those who are my enemies for no reason are numerous;
those who hate me without cause outnumber me.
20 They repay me evil for the good I have done;
though I have tried to do good to them, they hurl accusations at me.
21 Do not abandon me, O Lord!
My God, do not remain far away from me!
22 Hurry and help me, O Lord, my deliverer!

Biblical Studies Press. (2006; 2006). The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (Ps 38:1-22). Biblical Studies Press.

"A Psalm of David, written to get God’s attention." It is so comforting that we are not the first to walk this path. Sometimes life can weigh heavy on our hearts and make us lose confidence in everything we have come to know about God.

We may slip slowly in our faith as we face the challenges of this messy world we live in. First we praise on in the glory of our previous celebrations in what God has done for us. But then suddenly we awake to strong feelings of failure in our ability to in our own strength just having the faith to move forward.

We then start to say in our hearts as David said.
"O Lord, do not continue to rebuke me in your anger!
Do not continue to punish me in your raging fury!
For your arrows pierce me,and your hand presses me down.
My whole body is sick because of your judgment;
I am deprived of health because of my sin.
For my sins overwhelm me; like a heavy load,
they are too much for me to bear."

It is a great comfort that someone of the magnitude of David would have this experience also.

But we can not stay here and wallow in the depth of the situation, but we must follow David's guidance

"Yet I wait for you, O Lord!
You will respond, O Lord, my God!
I have prayed for deliverance,
because otherwise they will gloat over me;
when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me.
For I am about to stumble,
and I am in constant pain.

Yes, I confess my wrongdoing,
and I am concerned about my sins."

So often this sinful world will try to convince us that once we know God, everything will be perfect. Nothing can be further from the truth. We only need to look at the stories of David and other stars of God in the old testament and then carry forward and look at the apostles of the new testament. All of them faced struggles beyond what their own strength could endure. Yet they all had the confidence that God heard them and would attend to them. They all seemed to have courage to wait on God.

In our walk we have to promise that God will never leave us or forsake us.
We have eternal life, and God has a plan for us and He is using us for His glory. It might be hard for us to see this as we walk our path with Jesus at our side, but we must walk forward confidently trusting in His knowledge and faithfulness. We will stumble and fall and get dirty, God is looking for us to have the trust in Him to stand up, dust ourselves off and keep following Him.

The closing words of this Psalm are difficult for David as he did not have the promise that came so clearly with Jesus, that God would never leave us or forsake us. But David still had the confidence to say

"Do not abandon me, O Lord!
My God, do not remain far away from me!
Hurry and help me,
O Lord, my deliverer!"

Note that even though David was feeling abandoned, he still claimed God as "MY GOD" "MY DELIVERER"

So when you are on the floor, dirty, cut, and your heart is in pain. Get up dust yourself off and reach out and claim God as "MY GOD" and "MY DELIVERER" and trust Him knowing that He does have a plan for your life.

Amen

Encouragement Some trust in chariots

Today I bring you encouragement from Psalm 20:1-9

May the Lord answer you when you are in trouble; may the God of Jacob make you secure!
2 May he send you help from his temple;from Zion may he give you support!
3 May he take notice of your offerings;may he accept your burnt sacrifice! (Selah)
4 May he grant your heart’s desire;may he bring all your plans to pass!
5 Then we will shout for joy over your victory; we will rejoice in the name of our God!
May the Lord grant all your requests!
6 Now I am sure that the Lord will deliver his chosen king; he will intervene for him from his holy heavenly temple, and display his mighty ability to deliver.
7 Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the Lord our God.
8 They will fall down,but we will stand firm.
9 The Lord will deliver the king; he will answer us when we call to him for help!

Biblical Studies Press. (2006; 2006). The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (Ps 20:1-9). Biblical Studies Press.

I live in North America. It is way too easy here to put your trust in chariots or horses or stock brokers. We have become a society that does not trust in God, but rather in ourselves or the tools we surround ourselves with. We often look to God for that second opinion to tell us yup we are okay and doing well. Our psalm gives us a warning here.

"Some trust in chariots and others in horses,
but we depend on the Lord our God. They will fall down,but we will stand firm."

The Psalmist suggest that we should depend on our Lord our God and if we do we will stand firm.

Over and over and over again I have to learn the lesson that God is in control and even though his steps seem so out of place in our lives we must heed His guidance through His word.

I do believe that this psalm was a prayer for someone. I think it is one that we need to pray for each other. I know that I need someone to pray it over me.

"May the Lord answer
you when you are in trouble"

"May He send you help from his temple"

"May He give you support!"

"The Lord will deliver the king;
he will answer us when we call to him for help!"

Amen -- Let it be so!

Encouragement: How does God know?

Today I bring you words and thoughts of encouragement from Psalm 73:1-7

Certainly God is good to Israel,
and to those whose motives are pure!
2 But as for me, my feet almost slipped;
my feet almost slid out from under me.
3 For I envied those who are proud,
as I observed the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For they suffer no pain;
their bodies are strong and well-fed.
5 They are immune to the trouble common to men;
they do not suffer as other men do.
6 Arrogance is their necklace,
and violence their clothing.
7 Their prosperity causes them to do wrong;
their thoughts are sinful.
8 They mock and say evil things;
they proudly threaten violence.
9 They speak as if they rule in heaven,
and lay claim to the earth.
10 Therefore they have more than enough food to eat,
and even suck up the water of the sea.
11 They say, “How does God know what we do?
Is the sovereign one aware of what goes on?”
12 Take a good look! This is what the wicked are like,
those who always have it so easy and get richer and richer.
13 I concluded, “Surely in vain I have kept my motives pure
and maintained a pure lifestyle.
14 I suffer all day long,
and am punished every morning.”
15 If I had publicized these thoughts,
I would have betrayed your loyal followers.
16 When I tried to make sense of this,
it was troubling to me.
17 Then I entered the precincts of God’s temple,
and understood the destiny of the wicked.

Biblical Studies Press. (2006; 2006). The NET Bible First Edition; Bible. English. NET Bible.; The NET Bible (Ps 73:1-17). Biblical Studies Press.

I have been struggling with this text since Feb 26, 2009. How could this text be such a picture of today. The words sucking up water from the sea. Today we suck up water from the sea, that is a reality.

In reading this Psalm I felt convicted, I often feel with all I have that I am a walking proud one this psalm talks about.

"Take a good look! This is what the wicked are like, those who always have it so easy and get richer and richer."

Is this really me, am I wicked. I do have it to easy. I have spent days pondering this. I felt very much like the follow quote from the Psalm.

"When I tried to make sense of this, it was troubling to me. "

I read the following lines over and over.

'8 They mock and say evil things; they proudly threaten violence.
9 They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.
10 Therefore they have more than enough food to eat, and even suck up the water of the sea.
11 They say, “How does God know what we do?
Is the sovereign one aware of what goes on?” '

Today after all this reflection it came to me that maybe my hope is in the fact that I know that God sees all that I do both bad and good. I try to live in the freedom of God's grace, moment by moment not sinning intentionally but accepting the grace when I stumble. I only hope that I do not project an image that people would think that I speak as one who thinks they rule heaven.

So maybe it all boils down to realizing that God is in control and all authority rests in Him. In that condition God can use us to His Glory

This Psalm does not say that you have to be down and out to be right with God. But it does say that there are signs of being wicked. The most important sign is not recognizing God's authority over all we say, do and have.

When we struggle we are forced to depend on God. In that dependence, God is in full control. We still have to walk and do and try our best, but as we yield to God's nudges and accept His authority He uses us in His story. This does not mean we will be in a constant state of struggle, but through our struggles we become aware of the follies of the wicked and understand what is important. With this strength and insite we can assist our brothers and sisters in their struggles. Bringing God's glory, justice and light to this dark world we live in.

Note that often God uses the wicked and their wealth as store houses to attend to the needs of those struggling in their walk in this world.

Use us Lord for your Glory

Amen

Encouragement: The Lord is my Shepherd

Today I bring you words and thoughts of encouragement from Psalm 23

23:1 A psalm of David.
The Lord is my shepherd,
I lack nothing.
2 He takes me to lush pastures,
he leads me to refreshing water.
3 He restores my strength.
He leads me down the right paths
for the sake of his reputation.
4 Even when I must walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff reassure me.
5 You prepare a feast before me
in plain sight of my enemies.
You refresh my head with oil;
my cup is completely full.
6 Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days,
and I will live in the Lord’s house for the rest of my life.

I do believe that Psalm 23 is one of the most used, most liked and most encouraging of all the Psalms.

It starts with the picture that The Lord is our Shepherd. I have often tried to imagine how you could project this image to today's world, where most of have never touched a sheep. We may not know about sheep, but we all have heard it said that shepherd's look after their flocks both for food and safety. In the Shepherd's care the next line says it all. "I lack nothing."

"I lack nothing." This message applies to us.
Do we have everything we want, No.
Do we have everything we need maybe.
But it does say we lack nothing.
We need to be careful that we do not mistake wants for needs.

The next section I find very interesting.
"He takes me to lush pastures,
he leads me to refreshing water.
He restores my strength.
He leads me down the right paths
for the sake of His reputation."
Note that the Shepherd (God) does all this for the sake of His reputation. There is no mention that we are important or of consideration. When we view this from our "me me" cultural view this can be disturbing, but when we view it with the minds eye of just being part of Gods story we can feel the blessing poured out on us to overflowing.

"Even when I must walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me; "
We are on a journey through our lives and it will not all be easy. We will come to points where we must walk through the darkest valley, be it health issues, someone dieing, someone just disappearing from your sight. These words give us courage and confidence to walk through for He is with us.

I also like to draw your attention to the fact that it says we are to "go through the valley". We are not to camp out in the valley crying a river of tears and moaning of the injustice we face.

"You prepare a feast before me
in plain sight of my enemies.
You refresh my head with oil;
my cup is completely full."
When we are walking under the care of the Shepherd we are well cared for. The challenge is to go through our valleys and to keep our eye open to the blessing that the Lord has arranged for us. Sometimes our overflowing cup is right in front of us but we refuse to see it or drink from it.

In the Shepherds care we have a promise then be can claimed, the promise "Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days, and I will live in the Lord’s house for the rest of my life."

God does pursue us and He loves His creation. So let us follow the Shepherd as we come to know his voice more and more each day.

Remember if you have even the slightest interest in God, no matter how tiny, then know that He is pursuing you and has a place for you in His story that He may lead you down the right paths for the sake of His reputation.

Folks it is all about Him.

Praise God

Amen

Encouragement So I will put my hope in Him.

From Lamentation to Encouragement Part 3 Lamentations 3:17-26

17 I am deprived of peace;
I have forgotten what happiness is.
18 So I said, “My endurance has expired;
I have lost all hope of deliverance from the Lord.”
19 Remember my impoverished and homeless condition,
which is a bitter poison.
20 I continually think about this,
and I am depressed.
21 But this I call to mind;
therefore I have hope:
22 The Lord’s loyal kindness never ceases;
his compassions never end.
23 They are fresh every morning;
your faithfulness is abundant!
24 “My portion is the Lord,” I have said to myself,
so I will put my hope in him.
25 The Lord is good to those who trust in him,
to the one who seeks him.
26 It is good to wait patiently
for deliverance from the Lord.

Even in the down spiralling words of the book of Lamentations, hope and encouragement can be found. I choose to do this encouragement in three days so we could all go down to the depths that the exile brought to Israel. To really feel the pain and helplessness, the weeping and the knots in the stomach.
I have felt the pain and challenge of having what has been so important to me over the last while seemingly slip away. Like the message from our text, when we get to that state there seeming to be nothing to look forward to. Our strength gone, we question all that we have done in Gods name to His glory. All that seemed so good now all for nothing.
What we failed to see in our struggle is that we moved from doing things in God's strength and somewhere along the way we started to do things in our own strength. We can only turn things back to God, so that God can change the direction to set things back on course. Then once again the glory will all be His.
Amen

Lamentation: My stomach is in knots!

Lamentations 1:20-21

20 Look, O Lord! I am distressed;
my stomach is in knots!
My heart is pounding inside me.
Yes, I was terribly rebellious!
Out in the street the sword bereaves a mother of her children;
Inside the house death is present.
21 They have heard that I groan,
yet there is no one to comfort me.
All my enemies have heard of my trouble;
they are glad that you have brought it about.

Lamentation: My eyes flow with tears.

Lamentations 1:11-16

All her people groaned
as they searched for a morsel of bread.
They exchanged their valuables
for just enough food
to stay alive.
“Look, O Lord! Consider
that I have become worthless!”
12 Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by on the road?
Look and see!
Is there any pain like mine?
The Lord has afflicted me,
he has inflicted it on me
when he burned with anger.
13 He sent down fire
into my bones, and it overcame them.
He spread out a trapper’s net for my feet;
he made me turn back.
He has made me desolate;
I am faint all day long.
14 My sins are bound around my neck like a yoke;
they are fastened together by his hand.
He has placed his yoke on my neck;
he has sapped my strength.
The Lord has handed me over
to those whom I cannot resist.
15 He rounded up all my mighty ones;
The Lord did this in my midst.
He summoned an assembly against me
to shatter my young men.
The Lord has stomped like grapes
the virgin daughter, Judah.
16 I weep because of these things;
my eyes flow with tears.
For there is no one in sight who can comfort me
or encourage me.
